Un gol sensazionale di Osula regala la vittoria al Newcastle contro il Manchester United in dieci uomini, mettendo a rischio le ambizioni di Carrick e sollevando dubbi sull'intervento del VAR.

Osula Stuns Man Utd as Carrick's Hopes Fade

William Osula. Remember the name. His stunning winner secured a victory for ten-man Newcastle against Manchester United, leaving Michael Carrick's managerial aspirations hanging by a thread.

Ally McCoist was unavailable for comment.

The Premier League witnessed a moment of sheer brilliance as Will Osula scored a goal that will be replayed for years. But let's not forget Aaron Ramsdale's crucial save, denying Joshua Zirkzee what looked like a certain goal.

The goal itself? A masterpiece. Osula dispossessed his opponent and received a pinpoint pass from Kieran Trippier. Then came the magic: dribbling past Tyrell Malacia, using Harry Maguire as a shield, and unleashing a shot with absurd curl and power that left the keeper helpless.

Newcastle deserved the win, no question. Ramsdale's earlier fingertip save, pushing Zirkzee's shot around the post, was equally vital.

Should VAR intervene more often? It's a question worth asking, especially in situations like the red card decision that left Newcastle with ten men. VAR intervention should be considered for all decisions that leave a team with ten men, not just red card calls.

Referee Peter Bankes found himself at the center of controversy after cautioning Jacob Ramsey for a foul on Casemiro. Then came the second yellow, this time for diving. But here's the kicker: the referee wasn't even certain that Ramsey dived.

There was contact, wasn't there? Ramsey may have just stumbled. And tellingly, he didn't even appeal to the referee. Frustration, perhaps?

Could a VAR review have changed everything? Quite possibly. Despite being a man up, Manchester United's xG was a paltry 1.28, compared to Newcastle's 2.22.

Carrick bristled when his team's mentality was questioned. "Wasn't about character," he snapped. "We've lost one game, alright?" That spikiness is less concerning than him claiming that "general things" were wrong with the performance. What "general things," Michael?

Elsewhere, Chelsea triumphed over Aston Villa thanks to goals from Joao Pedro and Alejandro Garnacho. Liverpool, however, succumbed to Wolves. And, of course, Man Utd lost to ten-man Newcastle.

Carrick's side has an advantage: no European football to distract them. Though, Champions League qualification would be a disaster for Carrick's side. His mettle will be tested ahead of their clash with Villa. The performance was a Ruben Amorim-level of flat.

Did Carrick ever stand a chance of landing the permanent job? The performance at St James' Park will strengthen claims that the recent uptick was vibes-based. Maybe Carrick just doesn't have it in him.
