Oliver Glasner is leaving Crystal Palace after remarkable back-to-back trophies with the FA Cup and the Conference.
Andoni Iraola was very clearly the frontrunner but he is bound for Liverpool, so who are the favourites for the Palace job according to Oddschecker?
8=) Gareth Southgate
He really does not seem to be massively interested in being a football manager as he has fully embraced the LinkedIn life, and yet he continues to be linked with Premier League jobs, particularly ones where he has some emotional connection.
8=) Jose Bordalas
The Getafe coach has long been linked with Palace but club President Angel Torres said late last year: “Many absurd things have been said, like that the coach was going to go there. He’s very happy here and besides, he doesn’t speak English…Why would he go there?”
Has he not heard about the wages on offer in the Premier League? At 61, Bordalas might fancy one last challenge and one last big pay-day.
8=) Sean Dyche
Hard to see why he should fall upwards from a failed gig at Nottingham Forest to the Europa League with Crystal Palace but he is said to be on a list of alternatives to Andoni Iraola. Because obviously they are so similar…
6=) Julen Lopetegui
Currently preparing for the World Cup with Qatar but always features on lists of potential managers for mid-range Premier League clubs.
6=) Scott Parker
One of the worst managers in Premier League history, this would be a ridiculous appointment to make and we don’t think Palace would consider such a ridiculous appointment.
5) Thomas Frank
It would surely be an excellent idea to appoint a manager who has excelled at a mid-table level in the Premier League. He would probably love the relative peace and quiet after the loud and lousy disaster at Tottenham.
4) Paulo Fonseca
A managerial nomad last seen at Lyon after spells at Lille and AC Milan, Fonseca has never played or managed in England.
3) Dino Toppmoller
Having replaced Oliver Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt, it feels like a perfectly sensible plan for the German – who qualified for the Champions League but was then sacked within a year – to replace Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace.
2) Frank Lampard
The Coventry City manager is said to be ‘among plan Bs’ for Crystal Palace, though they would have to pay a hefty sum to newly promoted Coventry. Also, he’s been pretty terrible in the Premier League so this would be quite the leap of faith.
1) Pierre Sage
Having led Lens to the double of a second-place finish and the first Coupe de France in their history, you might have expected Sage to stay with the French club, but such is the pointlessness of chasing PSG, that he is said to be very interested in taking over at mid-table Premier League club Crystal Palace.
